MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Several non-profits in the Queen City received grants to assist those in need.

The Community Foundation of East Mississippi hosted its Endowment Recipient Reception at the Meridian Museum of Art on Tuesday.

The foundation awarded 13 non-profits in east Mississippi with endowment grants to help fund programs and pay for operation costs.

Christin Waters, the Executive Director of the foundation and a recipient said they are excited to be able to help the community.

“The Community Foundation has endowments that are open through donors that have a philanthropic need that they want to fulfill and so they entrust us with their donation and then we invest it back. And therefore we are able to give out annually to these nonprofits around east Mississippi. The best part about having this reception in all the nonprofits and the donors being able to be together is seeing the impact that’s able to happen throughout east Mississippi, there’s a lot of needs that are out there, and there’s still more needs that are untouched, but these are small differences that we can make each and every day,” said Waters.

“It’s awesome to have the endowment and the funds that come from that. We’re excited. We’re refurbishing, so we’ve got an indoor play area for our preschool that we’re refurbishing some items for. We need to do some work there and some of the things that we need for the playground and for the preschool itself and just excited to be able to have the funding to do that,” said Rev. David Schultz, the Executive Director at Wesley House.

Other organizations that received funding were the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, the United Way of East Mississippi, the Clinic of Meridian, Kemper County Economic Development, and many more.
