Blake Shapen announces he's staying at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) – The NCAA Transfer Portal opened Monday. Since the portal opened, nearly two dozen Mississippi State players entered.

One player who will not be entering his name into the transfer portal is quarterback Blake Shapen. Shapen announced his decision to return on X Tuesday afternoon.

Shapen, who transferred to Mississippi State from Baylor last off-season, started the first four games of the season for the Bulldogs before getting hurt against Florida.

In his four games, Shapen completed 69% of his passes for 974 yards, with eight touchdowns to just one interception.

True freshman Michael Van Buren Jr. took over the starting job after Shapen’s injury. In ten games, Van Buren Jr. completed 55% of his passes for 1,886 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
