Aggies Drop Series Finale to No. 21 Mississippi State, 6-5

STARKVILLE – After clinching the series in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, the No. 17 Texas A&M softball team dropped the series finale against No. 21 Mississippi State, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Nusz Park.

Texas A&M (25-3, 5-1) and Mississippi State (21-6, 3-3) exchanged blows as both teams combined to score seven runs in the first two innings. The Aggies struck first with a two-out three-run home run by Aiyana Coleman, followed by the Bulldogs answering with three runs in the bottom half of the opening frame. Jazmine Hill regained the lead for Texas A&M with a two-out solo home run to center in the second inning.

The Aggies carried a 4-3 lead to the bottom of the fourth before the Bulldogs answered with an RBI double to even the score. Mississippi State took its first lead, 6-4, in the sixth scoring runs on a passed ball and an RBI single.

Rylen Wiggins provided the Aggies a glimmer of hope with a leadoff solo home run to left center, followed by a single from Kramer Eschete in the seventh. A sacrifice bunt advanced Eschete, before a pop out and foul out ended the comeback.

Emiley Kennedy (13-2) was saddled with the loss after 6.0 innings of work and three strikeouts, while giving up eight walks and hitting two batters.

UP NEXT

Texas A&M plays a Wednesday midweek at 6 p.m. against Texas State at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

B4 | Brylie St. Clair walked and later scored after Nadia Barbary doubled to left center. TAMU 4, MSU 4

B6 | Jessie Blaine pinch hit for St. Clair and lined a double to left center. St. Clair reentered and advanced to third after Sacco singled down the third base line. A passed ball scored St. Clair. Ella Wesolowski singled to right field scoring Barbary.  TAMU 4, MSU 6

T7 | Rylen Wiggins hit a leadoff solo home run.  TAMU 5, MSU 6
