Going into last season, conventional wisdom was that Mississippi State was going to be better than it was in 2022, and it was just a matter of how much better the Bulldogs would be. 

In a narrow sense, there were ways in which MSU was improved. Whereas it had lost its last 11 SEC games to close out the 2022 season, it showed fight down the stretch last season, winning a series late against eventual national champion LSU and taking the fight to Texas A&M the last weekend of the season in a last-minute push to make the SEC Tournament.
