MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — True freshman running back Javian Mallory gave Miami Hurricanes fans a glimpse of the future Thursday night, turning his opportunities into explosive production in a dominant home win over Florida A&M at Hard Rock Stadium. 

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound back from Fort Lauderdale finished with ten rushing attempts for 142 yards and two touchdowns. His long gain of 52 yards came in the third quarter on that incredible touchdown run. He also ripped off an 18-yard run earlier in the second half as the Hurricanes poured it on. 

Mallory’s first collegiate score came with 46 seconds left in the second quarter. After an 18-yard burst and a short gain, he punched it in from 11 yards out to make it 49-0.

He later set up another scoring drive with the 35-yard dash that moved Miami down the field with relative ease.

The former four-star prospect, who was ranked among the top 30 running backs in the 2026 class, enters a crowded backfield that includes veteran Mark Fletcher Jr., who led the way with 105 yards and two scores. He is also competing for snaps against Girald Pringle Jr., CharMar Brown, and Jordan Lyle (when he returns to the team). 

Mallory still made his snaps count with the same blend of power, vision, and burst. In his last year at West Boca, he recorded 1,261 total yards of offense and 18 total touchdowns as a high school senior and helped West Boca win back-to-back Class 6A state titles. 

Coaches and teammates had already noticed him during spring and fall camp. Head coach Mario Cristobal previously praised his contact balance and work in pass protection. Those traits showed against the Rattlers as Mallory ran with his pads down and finished runs.

Miami used the mismatch to rest starters and give younger players reps, and Mallory capitalized. 

In a loaded room fighting for carries, nights like this matter. Efficient and explosive work against FCS competition is how freshmen force their way into the rotation. 

The Hurricanes rolled to a lopsided victory, continuing the offensive momentum from their Week 1 rout of Stanford. For Mallory, it was more than garbage-time stats. It was proof that the local kid who chose Miami over Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and others can produce when given the ball.

Next up for Miami is a road trip to Wake Forest. Whether Mallory’s role grows will depend on how the staff balances the backfield, but Thursday’s flashes made one thing clear: the freshman can run.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A former youth basketball coach in Miami pleaded guilty Thursday in connection to two cases in Miami-Dade County involving children.

Charles Akim Williams was sentenced to nearly six ½ years in prison followed by 10 months of probation. A Miami-Dade County judge also ordered that he stay away from the victims.

In addition to pleading guilty to the 2025 cases, he also pleaded guilty to violating probation on a 2021 battery conviction. The battery charge was initially accompanied by lewd and lascivious charges that were later dropped.

Police confirmed that Williams had an open case in 2021 out of Miami-Dade County in which he was accused of molesting a 6-year-old boy.

The mother of one of the victims from the 2025 crimes addressed the court via Zoom Thursday, saying that she hopes Williams “gets what he deserves.”

In August 2025, Williams, then 27, was arrested on two counts of seducing or luring a child to engage in sexual conduct and one count of sexual performance by a child.

Authorities said the arrest followed an investigation in which a search warrant was obtained for Williams’ cellphone.

A forensic exam revealed a text conversation with a 13-year-old boy that included an image of the victim that was taken during a FaceTime call with Williams while the victim was showering on Feb. 20, 2025, according to an arrest report.

During a forensic interview at Kristi House, a children’s advocacy center, the victim told police that he had been texting with Williams for a couple of weeks, the report stated.

He told investigators that Williams, his former basketball coach, invited him to his home to play video games multiple times, but he declined, according to investigators.

Police said the victim also said Williams asked him on two occasions to send pictures of his private area, which he refused.

The victim said that while he was showering, he received a FaceTime call from his 13-year-old friend and Williams on Feb. 20, 2025, according to the report.

Police said the victim got out of the shower to pick up his phone that was on a dresser and returned to the shower, exposing himself to the camera.

He later learned his friend had taken a screenshot and sent it to Williams via text message, the report stated.

On Aug. 8, 2025, authorities said the victim identified the photo that showed his genitals while he was in the shower.

Local 10 reported on Williams back in February 2025 after he was arrested on accusations that he exposed himself to a victim on a FaceTime call and sent the victim a pornographic video of a man and woman having anal sex, asking the victim if he thought he could do that.

That victim told police that he got scared and hung up the phone when Williams exposed himself to him, according to authorities.

The boy said he had met Williams a couple of weeks prior to the incident through a 14-year-old friend at the Gibson Community Center.

In that earlier case, he was charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition on a child under 16, lewd and lascivious conduct on a child under 16, electronic transmission harmful to minors in state, promoting sexual performance by a child and tampering with an informant.
