One down, five to go in Nebraska’s hunt for the NCAA volleyball national championship.
The second-seeded Huskers cruised past Florida A&M in their 2024 tournament opener on Friday, winning 25-3, 25-9, 25-17 to improve to 29-2 on the season. That sets up a second-round matchup with another Sunshine State opponent, No. 8 seed Miami, on Saturday in Lincoln.
The Hurricanes (22-10) had to work a bit harder but still downed South Dakota State 3-0 in first-round play. Though Miami’s record isn’t nearly as gaudy as Nebraska’s, the ‘Canes have knocked off four ranked opponents this season, including then-No. 1 Texas on the road in September and then-No. 5 Stanford in November.
So, while Nebraska will be the heavy favorite to advance to next weekend’s regionals before another raucous home crowd, Miami won’t go down without a fight.

NCAA volleyball tournament schedule 2024
The NCAA volleyball tournament began with first-round matches on Thursday, Dec. 5. First/second rounds and regionals will be hosted on college sites.
