Sonic boom shakes homes across Maryland
UPDATE 2: The FAA has confirmed that a Cessna crashed in Virginia.
UPDATE: BNO News reports that a small plane has crashed in Virginia after flying over Washington D.C., which prompted fighter jets to scramble, causing the sonic boom. The Cessna flew through a “no fly zone” in close proximity to the White House and U.S. Capitol. The plane was reportedly flying from Tennessee to New York when it became unresponsive over D.C.

ANNAPOLIS, MD—A loud boom shook Maryland on Sunday afternoon, leading many residents to wonder if there had been an earthquake.
At just after 3 p.m. on June 4, 2023, a loud boom rocked homes in Anne Arundel County, the D.C. metro area, and other portions of the DelMarVa peninsula.
Many took to Twitter to ask if there had been an explosion, earthquake, or other phenomena.
The Annapolis Office of Emergency Management reports that the blast was a sonic boom from an “authorized DOD flight.”
No additional information is available at this time.
