North Country native dies in Maryland motorcycle collision

A Crown Point native who was an Army master sergeant was killed last month in a motorcycle collision in Bel Air, Maryland.

TICONDEROGA – The funeral of a Crown Point native who was assigned to the Army’s Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and was the victim of a motorcycle crash last month will be held next Friday.

According to the Maryland State Police, Master Sgt. Jeremy Burris, 37, was riding a Kawasaki in Bel Air, Harford County, on the evening of May 22 when the collision with a Chrysler Pacifica occurred. Police said the Chrysler was traveling west on Route 22 and tried to make a left turn onto southbound Schucks Road. At the same time, Burris was traveling east on Route 22 when he crashed head-on into the Chrysler.  Burris was pronounced dead at the scene. 

According to his obituary, Burris was assigned to the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear Explosives Command. He also served in Afghanistan and Iraq and was the recipient of several service medals.  He attended Hudson Valley Community College where he received his associate’s degree in criminal justice, graduating with honors.

Visitation at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, Ticonderoga, is 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, and the funeral with full military honors will be held at Valley View Cemetery at 11 a.m. June 9.
