Injured Man Rescued From Cargo Ship In Chesapeake Bay
STEVENSVILLE, MD — Maryland State Police rescued a man from a cargo ship in the Chesapeake Bay on Monday after authorities said the man fell more than 10 feet from a ladder.
According to state police, the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. aboard the Abtenauer bulk carrier cargo ship. Police said the ship was traveling in the Chesapeake Bay near Stevensville when a ship worker fell from the ladder.
Due to the nature of his injuries, a Maryland State Police Aviation Command crew responded for a hoist rescue. Police said a trooper and flight paramedic were lowered from a helicopter to the ship, where they secured the injured man to a backboard and hoisted him into the helicopter.

The man was taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries, police said. The man’s condition was unknown.
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the rescue.
