Beauty guru catches sound of gunfire that killed her brother in makeup tutorial video
A Maryland social media video creator tragically caught the sound of the gunfire that killed her brother, a promising boxer and young dad, on video Monday night while filming a makeup tutorial.
Rebecca Olugbemi was showing off a skincare product to the camera at around 9:45 p.m. when a barrage of gunshots sounded off — stopping her in her tracks, as her eyes widened, the clip posted to X by an NBC Washington reporter shows.
The beauty guru cut off the video and would soon learn that the gunshots were fired at her 27-year-old brother Isaiah Olugbemi outside their Odenton home, according to Anne Arundel police.
Isaiah suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Isaiah hoped to become a professional boxer and had just won a Golden Gloves national championship at 203 pounds last month, his family told NBC Washington.
“I just want people to know that my brother was a great father, a great man,” Daniel Olugbemi said. “He just wanted to be nothing but a great boxer.”
His other passion in life was caring for his 2-year-old son, they said.
“He always looked out for everyone and made sure that everyone was good,” Rebecca told the local DC-based station. “I just want them to know. And he was just a hard worker. Anything that he wanted, he went after it.”
A day after the shooting, investigators arrested the Olugbemis’ neighbor, Nicholas Giroux, 36, for the killing and charged him with first- and second-degree murder.
The killing appeared to be targeted, according to police and the family said that Giroux had been confrontational to them before.
Giroux is due in court for a bond hearing on Thursday morning, according to the news station.
“I don’t know what justice would look like, honestly,” Rebecca said. “I don’t know if there’s anything that could be done that would make it any better.”
