Wildfire near Gum Swamp Road in Livingston Parish now under control; more than 200 acres burned
LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) – A wildfire burning near Gum Swamp Road in Livingston Parish is now under control after scorching more than 200 acres, according to local fire officials.
Livingston Parish Fire Protection District #7 said firefighters, along with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, worked to contain the blaze. Officials confirmed the fire is officially under control as of the latest update.
Earlier, fire officials shared video from the scene showing heavy flames and thick smoke spreading across a wooded area, prompting warnings for residents to stay away from Gum Swamp Road while crews worked the fire.
Fire officials estimate the wildfire burned more than 200 acres. No injuries or property damage have been reported at this time.
Officials also thanked community members who offered assistance during the response effort.
