Residents encouraged to clean up La. during Love the Boot Week
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Louisiana residents are being encouraged to help clean up the Bayou State during Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Love the Boot Week in 2024.
Love the Boot Week starts on Saturday, April 20, and will run through Sunday, April 28. The week is Louisiana’s largest litter removal and beautification effort held during Earth Week.
Organizers said that Coca-Cola is funding recycling efforts during litter cleanup events in 13 parishes. In addition, non-profits, schools, businesses, and some families have organized cleanup events in all 64 parishes.
“Thank you to Coca-Cola for funding recycling during Love the Boot Week,” said Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “According to KLB’s 2023 litter study, 92% of people in Louisiana think litter is a problem. The proper disposal of our trash and recycling is key to ending litter in Louisiana. It’s important to recycle when possible and never litter.”
Members of the public can organize an event or volunteer for an event during Love the Book Week. Click here for more details about how to register and participate.
Organizers said the Osprey Initiative is also helping to facilitate recycling during Love the Book Week events in multiple parishes. When registering to participate, an event in an eligible parish can sign up to get help with recycling efforts. The Osprey Initiative will ship over recycling bags and will also pick up the bags, sort the material, and deliver the items to a recycling facility.
According to Keep Louisiana Beautiful, more than 12,000 people participated in removing 313 tons of litter in all 64 parishes during Love the Book Week in 2023. Volunteers also planted hundreds of trees and thousands of plants.
