Louisiana woman fatally stabs man attempting to sexually assault her
LACOMBE, Louisiana — A registered sex offender who attempted to sexually assault a woman at a laundromat was killed when the woman fatally stabbed her attacker, authorities say.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant died at a hospital from the stab wounds. Tranchant had been released from prison in December after serving 15 years on a conviction for for attempted aggravated rape and aggravated burglary. In July 2003, Tranchant was convicted for indecent behavior with juveniles.
Authorities say the attack at the Lacombe-area laundromat occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. According to the sheriff’s office, Tranchant was armed with a sharp weapon when he attacked the woman. The victim fought back and took the weapon from Tranchant, then used it to stab him before fleeing.
