Daring Rescue: Pickup truck driver rescued from frigid waters in Louisiana
CATAHOULA PARISH, La. (KALB) – During Louisiana’s cold weather event on January 25, four individuals—Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Carithers, Jonesville Police Officer Cory Hall, and citizens Stanley Gardner and Jason Cross— performed a daring rescue in the cold waters of Little River near Archie Park at Texaco Towne.
According to the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck had entered the river, trapping its driver inside. The responders forced their way into the vehicle and successfully removed the trapped occupant, who was then transported to LaSalle General Hospital, where they received treatment for hypothermia.
At this time, it remains unclear how the vehicle entered the river.
Sheriff Toney Edwards extended personal thanks to the Sandy Lake Fire Department and Jonesville Fire Department for their rapid response to the emergency. He has also officially recognized four rescuers.
