Winter weather affecting Martin Luther Jr. Day celebrations in central Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A blanket of snow is hampering plans to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in central Kentucky.
WKYT is monitoring social media accounts of cities across the region to see how leaders are adjusting to the wintry weather.
Lexington’s MLK Day Freedom March is set to begin at 1 p.m. The city has not posted about any delays or schedule changes. City leaders did post on Facebook about how crews are treating roads.
The MLK event will include musical guests and speakers.
Cynthiana canceled its MLK Day march, according to the Cynthiana Democrat. A ceremony will still take place at Ebenezer United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The church is on North Locust Street.
People in Richmond still plan to march. The Richmond-Madison County Branch NAACP posted on Facebook about plans early Friday morning, asking people to dress warmly. The march will begin at 10 a.m. on Main Street. People will begin staging at 9 a.m. at First Christian Church.
Georgetown College’s MLK Day Celebration is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with a meet and greet at the student center. A march is set to follow at 4 p.m. It will run along East College Street.
