Three days after tornadoes and hurricane-force straight line winds pounded western Kentucky twice in a single day, at least 20,000 homes are still without power in a dozen counties. But that’s a huge improvement since more than 100,000 customers were knocked out by tornadoes and storms on Sunday.
As of Wednesday morning, Muhlenberg County had almost 5900 customers out of service, or one-third of the entire county’s population.
Trigg County still had 30 percent of its homes without power, almost 2900 customers.
Christian County is still trying to restore 2200 customers, Hopkins County has 1900 outages, and Calloway County is dealing with outages for 1400 homes.
Along with local staff, more than 440 additional linemen have been called into the region in those counties, as well as Lyon, Caldwell, Todd, Ohio, McLean and Butler counties.
Dozens of outages are also still reported in Marshall and Graves counties.
Further east in Bowling Green, nearly 4700 customers are still without power.
Affected utilities include West Kentucky Rural Electric, Pennyrile Electric, Kentucky Utilities, Kenergy, and Warren RECC.
