Kentucky Derby 150 purse raised to $5 million
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Churchill Downs says historical racing machines have helped push the purse of the Kentucky Derby to $5 million.
The $2 million increase make it a record for the 150th running of the Derby. First place will get $3.1 million, second receiving $1 million and third place will get $500,000.
“These record purse increases are a symbol of the health of horse racing in Kentucky,” CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated Bill Carstanjen said.
The 150th Kentucky Derby will run on Saturday, May 4.
