John Wall gives sage advice to John Calipari about these Wildcats
Over the years, John Calipari has coached many successful guards, including John Wall, Brandon Knight, Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, De’Aaron Fox, Tyler Ulis, and others.
Since then, Ulis has become a student assistant coach at Kentucky, and this year, Wall has been to plenty of Kentucky games to support his former school.
With the help of Ulis being on the sidelines coaching and helping out the team, also comes an outside factor with Wall. Although not a coach, he reached out to Calipari before the Florida game on Saturday to help give him and the team some advice, according to Coach Cal.
“He said, ‘Hey, let them play loose and just make sure they know this team’s better, so they may have to have the next play, but let them play,’” Wall told Calipari.
During Wall’s time at Kentucky, he only lost two SEC games, which were road games against South Carolina and Tennessee. Wall was a highly successful guard, as he helped to lead Kentucky to the Elite Eight for the first year that Calipari was the head coach at Kentucky.
As for Ulis, who is on the coaching staff, he went 5-0 against the Florida Gators during his two seasons at Kentucky and was also on the program’s last Final Four team.
With Wall still giving advice to Calipari, it just shows how much his players still care about the program even after they are long gone, whether they are still playing basketball or out of the game.
Former Cat John Wall has been courtside for several Kentucky games this season, even coaching up some of the guards.
John Calipari says Wall contacted him before the Florida game.
“He said, ‘Let them play loose… They may have to have the next play. Let them play.’”
