Darryn Peterson updates recruitment; has mixed reviews on Kentucky
Mark Pope and his staff are now turning their focus to the 2025 class as they look to build out a strong first high school class in Lexington.
With plenty of high-level prospects on the radar, one that has always seemed like a likely potential addition has been Darryn Peterson.
The 5-star guard, who plays for Huntington Prep, has started to focus on his recruitment. UK is battling Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, Baylor, and Arkansas to land the top-five prospect.
He has already visited Lexington, and in a recent conversation with Jamie Shaw of On3, he had some great things to say about the program and its facilities… not so much about the campus.
“The campus wasn’t all that great, but the facilities and where the gym was at was great. They got everything. I feel like I can go there and get better, and that is the main thing. Even if Cal isn’t there, Kentucky is still Kentucky. Coach (Mark) Pope is still a great coach,” he told Shaw.
With an upcoming official visit, let’s hope the new Kentucky staff can change that narrative. Even if they can’t, hearing him give a solid review of the program and facilities definitely still helps the Cats’ chances of landing the star guard.
Peterson is currently ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the class by 247 Sports Composite.
