Anonymous tips lead to breakthrough arrests in Southern Kentucky
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Every Wednesday, WBKO brings you a case from Southern Kentucky Crime Stoppers. The segment helps law enforcement catch criminals and allows some of you to put extra money in your pocket.
“2024, We received 212 tips that came into the Southern Kentucky Crime Stoppers,” said Michael Myrick, Bowling Green Police Department Criminal Investigations Division Captain “Of those tips, 9 led to an arrest that paid out totaling $4,200.”
Michael Myrick is a captain for the Bowing Green Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
He said of those nine arrests, the most recent case that stood out to him was when a suspect broke into an apartment complex community room to steal mail.
“Freaked a lot of people out there,” said Myrick. “They’re in there to exercise early in the morning, and they were confronted by an unknown male that appeared to not live there.”
Myrick said many of those residents submitted tips that eventually led to an arrest. The arrest is what ultimately gets you paid.
He explained what makes a good tip.
“Hopefully to include a name, or an address, or a vehicle description that gives us as much information as possible so we can hit the ground running and hopefully track that person down,” said Myrick.
Myrick said to have patience while detectives work their tips to close out the case.
“Depends on the crime and the complexities of that crime,” said Myrick. “You know whether it be a, you know, a fraud case or a serious assault, or a sexual assault, something like that. They can range from weeks to months to years even.”
Myrick said investigators are still working on 20 to 30 tips on multiple Crime Stoppers cases.
