Thomasville’s Georgia Crate & Basket Co. issues statement after devastating fire

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) – After a fire raged for over 10 hours at the historic Thomasville business, we are now hearing from the company and workers affected.

Georgia Crate & Basket Company confirmed that no one was injured during a fire at the plant that started before sunrise on Wednesday.

Out of 50 employees, around 25-30 employees are now without work due to the blaze, according to information obtained from WCTV.

The company said that though the fire tore through baskets and other items at the Parnell Street location, production will soon resume at another plant the company has.

The legacy company was founded in 1894 and is reportedly the oldest family-owned business in Thomasville.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
