Man arrested on Raleigh train after escaping custody in Georgia

Raleigh police officers Sunday arrested a man who authorities in Georgia say escaped from custody.

Raleigh police officers with the department’s fugitive unit arrested Kendrick Hurst while he was onboard an Amtrak train in Raleigh.

Authorities in Georgia said Hurst was in custody in a hospital in Newton County and escaped from the hospital on May 4.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said Newton faced several charges from an incident on April 28, including:

  • Terroristic threats and acts.
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
  • Willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
  • Countless traffic violations.

Hurst faces several new charges stemming from his escape. Authorities in Georgia are searching for anyone who aided Hurst in the escape.
