Georgia single mother gifted her very own car

MARIETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A single mom in Georgia no longer has to worry about walking her baby to daycare, keeping up with the bus schedule to make it to work, and living life with less mobility.

“I had a car previously, but I got into a car accident in 2021. Since then it has just been a struggle trying to get into a place financially where I was able to get another car,” said 26-year-old Cournae Maxwell.

On Wednesday, the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides program, along with Travelers Insurance and Classic Collision of Marietta, came together with other partners to gift Maxwell a car of her own.

“This is Classics’ way of giving back to our communities in the 16 states that we operate and conduct business in,” said Daniel Standridge with Classic Collision of Marietta.

Maxwell was nominated by the nonprofit Wellroot, an organization she believes has changed her life. They are a foster care and family services agency.

“Life changing to say the least. A lot of support, a lot of resources that has been given. Just them being more than willing to rally behind me in whatever area I needed,” said Maxwell.

“We have family supportive services, we work with youth who are in foster care as well as youth who are transitioning out of foster care,” said Tayeka Bryan with Wellroot.

The nonprofit said Maxwell is a survivor; that she has continued to rise, to fight, to succeed, despite personal struggles. She currently has a job with the DeKalb County School District. After the ceremony, the car was hers. Maxwell was off to begin a new chapter of her life; one where she has more independence than she did before.
