Georgia breaks Alabama’s SEC record for consecutive wins
Georgia beat Georgia Tech 31-23 in Atlanta on Saturday, breaking Alabama’s long-standing record for consecutive victories by an SEC team.
Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs have now won 29 straight games, one more than the Crimson Tide won under Paul “Bear” Bryant from 1978-80 and under Gene Stallings from 1991-93. Bryant’s team won back-to-back national championships before losing to Mississippi State in the third season, while Stallings’ team won the 1992 national title before a tie vs. Tennessee the following year.
Georgia has not lost since it fell 41-24 to … Alabama … in the 2021 SEC championship game. Including that loss to the Crimson Tide, the Bulldogs have won 45 of 46 games dating to a loss to Florida in November 2020.
No. 1 Georgia (12-0) will try to become the first SEC team with 30 consecutive wins when it meets No. 8 Alabama (11-0) in the SEC championship game next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Central at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
