The 2025 season will be a critical one for Florida football coach Billy Napier, who’s entering his fourth season at the school with a middling 19-19 record in his time in Gainesville.

Nearly two months before the Gators’ first game, he picked up a notable win.

Edge rusher KJ Ford, a top-150 recruit nationally in the 2026 class, has committed to Florida, he announced on July 11.

The Duncanville, Texas, native is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 116 player in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s the No. 15 edge rusher nationally and the No. 17 prospect in talent-rich Texas.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Ford chose the Gators over Ohio State and Texas A&M. He also held scholarships from, among others, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Penn State, Florida State, USC and Auburn.

He becomes the 17th commit for Florida in its 2026 class, five of whom are in the top 150 nationally in 247’s rankings. The class is ranked 15th in the FBS and seventh in the SEC.

Ford’s pledge continues a recent recruiting splurge for the Gators, who have landed commitments from 16 players from the 2026 class since the start of June.
