2-year-old Florida girl reunites with deputy who scaled burning building to save her from fire

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA/NBC) — A Florida deputy who risked his life to rescue a toddler from a burning constructing reunited with the little woman he saved this week.

Deputy William Puzymski with the Orange County Sheriff’s Workplace was one of many deputies who responded to a hearth at an Orlando condo constructing early Saturday morning. Deputy Puzymski scaled the burning constructing to get to the kid. He’s heard on physique digital camera video shouting, “we’re coming! Hand me your child!”

“He’s like, ‘give me the infant, give me the infant’ as he’s climbing and making an attempt to get himself sturdy,” the kid’s mom, Barbara Elenus, stated. “And I’m like, ‘ugh, I don’t know, I don’t need to offer you my child.’”

Elenus did ultimately hand her youngster, 2-year-old Sophie, over to the deputy. Puzymski lowered himself and the younger woman to security.

“That deputy is my hero, he’s modified my outlook on regulation enforcement,” Elenus stated. “He was ready to lose his life to save lots of my life and my youngsters.”

Sophie’s siblings, together with her 13-year-old brother Jeremiah, had already managed to get out of the constructing. They noticed the rescue taking place.

“I noticed the officer climbing up and I heard him speaking about passing Sophie down and that was scary,” he stated.

The mom of 4 reunited Tuesday with the primary responders who helped save her household. She stated nothing was salvageable after the fireplace and so they’re quickly residing in a lodge.

“I simply pray that me and the children have a spot to name residence and stay and really feel protected,” Elenus stated.

For now, although, she stated she’s simply grateful for the primary responders who saved her.

“I’m simply comfortable to be alive and I’m right here to share my story.”
