The plan for a new Delaware State Police Troop 4, near Sussex Central High School on Patriots Way in Millsboro is moving forward.
After the Sussex County Council approved a conditional use permit for the site IN 2024, a site plan was approved by the Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission. The 44-acre property is farmland and has no wetlands, plans say, and is located between the Stockley Center and Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
The facility will feature a 48,000-square-foot main building, 15,700-square-foot maintenance building, 320,000-square-foot skid pad, paved parking area with about 400 spaces and gravel impound lot with space for 100 vehicles, according to the plan.
The existing Troop 4, located at South Dupont Highway and Shortly Road in Georgetown, opened in the 1990s. The new Troop 4 is expected to open in early 2027, a state police spokesperson said.
