Douglassville man, 26, killed in Delaware motorcycle crash

A Douglassville man, 26, was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning on Interstate 95 in New Castle, Del., according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers gave this account:

At about 8:35 a.m., the motorcyclist, whom police did not identify, was southbound near Basin Road behind a group of fellow riders. He accelerated to catch up and passed them at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle’s rear tire locked up, causing it to skid. The motorcycle fell on its right side and slid toward the right shoulder of the roadway.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being without until his family is notified.

The roadway was closed for about five hours.
