Troopers were called to Route 40 (Pulaski Highway) near Wellington Drive a little before 5:30 p.m. for reports of the crash. Through their investigation, they learned that a 40-year-old New Castle man was biking on the right shoulder of Route 40.

That’s when the driver of the car, who police said was also traveling on the right shoulder, hit the bicycle, ejecting the man. The car then left the scene.

Patrol troopers and a state police helicopter tried to find the car, which witnesses described as a black SUV, but they couldn’t. Police are still working to determine the vehicle’s exact make and model.
