Delaware making racial integration inroads; where does the First State rank?

As Black History Month starts, civil rights leaders would be proud of Delaware’s progress on race.

Delaware’s long history of grappling with race and creating diversification programs are taking hold: the First State cracked the top-ten of WalletHub’s ranking of states with the most racial integration.

Delaware earned points for civic engagement, income and wealth, among other factors.

Here is where Delaware is excelling on racial progress.

Education, heath driving Delaware’s racial integration

In its report on state that have made the most racial progress, WalletHub credited Delaware for the strength of the state’s employment and income of non-white residents, along with minorities having a strong sense of civic and social engagement.

Those factors helped Delaware to a seventh-place ranking on WalletHub’s list, becoming the only mid-Atlantic region to crack the top ten of states with the most racial integration.

New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania has work to do in terms of racial integration

Delaware’s neighbors to the north have some work to do to catch Delaware’s racial integration progress.

New Jersey ranked 17th on WalletHub’s racial integration progress report, while New York ranked 36th.

Pennsylvania has the most work to do moving forward, as the Keystone State ranked 37th on WalletHub’s racial integration list.
