In the blink of an eye, the 2024 NHL All-Star break has arrived.
That means it’s probably a good time to re-examine the Dallas Stars’ Stanley Cup odds. Dallas enters the break with a 30-13-6 record and is keeping pace with the Colorado Avalanche (32-14-3) near the top of the Central Division standings.
The Stars are also among the top teams in their conference, trailing only Colorado and Vancouver in the West. Dallas’ stance at this point seems to be on par with the preseason projections it received going into 2024. After a run to the 2023 Western Conference finals, are the Stars poised to make more playoff noise?
According to FanDuel, the Stars are still among the betting favorites to take home a league title in June. Here’s a look at the sportsbook’s top 10 Stanley Cup favorites (as of Jan. 31):
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Colorado | +800 |
Edmonton | +850 |
Boston | +950 |
Florida | +950 |
Carolina | +1000 |
New York Rangers | +1100 |
Dallas | +1200 |
Toronto | +1400 |
Vegas | +1400 |
Winnipeg | +1600 |
The Stars currently have the seventh-best odds to claim the Stanley Cup crown. With that figure in mind, how do those odds compare to those posted at the end of last season and the beginning of 2023-24? Let’s look back.
A few days after the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers to win last year’s championship, the Stars (at +1700) were given the 10th-best odds to make a title run. Dallas sat one spot ahead of the Panthers and was behind teams like the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
When the 2023-24 season started, Dallas was listed with the sixth-best odds at +1300. There wasn’t too much movement in the space between October and January. The only team to leap the Stars in the latest odds was the Jim Montgomery-led Boston Bruins, who lead the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference at 31-9-9.
The Stars will get a chance to regroup after building a three-game winning streak prior to the break. Goaltender Jake Oettinger will be the lone Stars representative at this year’s All-Star festivities.
