Freezing Temperatures Returning to North Texas on Sunday
A cold front is headed for North Texas this weekend, and, while initially mild, it could end up bringing freezing temperatures back to the area by Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued an alert on Friday warning residents about winter weather headed for the region this weekend.
According to the alert, a Friday evening cold front will reinforce cooler temperatures already in place across North and Central Texas. That will cause increased wind speeds up to 20-25 mph and gusts of up to 35 mph are expected by Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will rise during the day on Saturday to the 60s and even low 70s in some areas.
That all changes on Sunday, when freezing temperatures are expected to return to much of North Texas and even parts of western Central Texas. Residents can expect to wake up to clear skies, light north winds, and normal lows (DFW: 42 degrees; Waco: 42 degrees).
If that weather pattern wasn’t chaotic enough, things warm back up next week. Dallas and Fort Worth can expect highs in the 60s, 70s, and even into the mid-80s by midweek. The NWS expects the same for Waco, Temple, and Killeen.
Conditions aren’t likely to change much in the foreseeable future, particularly when it comes to an absence of precipitation. “This pattern of warmer than normal temperatures with no meaningful chances for rain is expected to continue into early March,” the bulletin states.
Tonight, the NWS is hosting a Skywarn Storm Spotter Training at the City of Garland Holford Recreation Center (2314 Homestead Pl, Garland, TX). Visit weather.gov/fwd/skywarnmap to learn more.
