Former Jazz assistant Alex Jensen teaming up with Jason Kidd in Dallas

Former Utah Jazz assistant coach and Runnin’ Utes star Alex Jensen has a new home.

The 47-year-old is joining Jason Kidd’s Dallas Mavericks staff, ESPN reports.

Jensen, had been a part of the Jazz since 2013, first coaching under Tyrone Corbin and later Quin Snyder. Jensen has been credited with his role in helping develop former Jazz center Rudy Gobert into an NBA All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Jensen, a Centerville native, was a key member of the University of Utah squad that made a run to the 1998 NCAA national title game. After a five-year pro career, Jensen got his coaching start at Saint Louis with Rick Majerus, his coach with the Utes.

He became the head coach of the Canton Charge, winning D-League Coach of the Year honors, before joining the Jazz in 2013. Jensen has been a candidate for multiple head coaching jobs in the NBA. In 2021, he interviewed for the head coaching job at his alma mater.
