LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – As we culminate Black History Month, what better way to celebrate the culture than by dance?

The McMahon Memorial Auditorium is hosting the Dallas Black Dance Theater on Thursday evening.

These 14 dancers, mostly trained from the world-renowned Alvin Ailey School in New York, have traveled the world.

The troupe has performed before Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. Hana DeLong, rehearsal director says they embrace the audience as they dance so that it becomes a shared experience.

When asked what she hopes people will take away from the experience, DeLong responded, “That Dance is beautiful all across the world. Dance is an art form that should be celebrated and seen so I hope this encourages them to watch more dance.”

The performance is scheduled for this Thursday at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the dance itself starting at 7:30 p.m. and there will also be a business panel at 6 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
