The Austin Restaurant Winners of the First-Ever Michelin Texas Guide Will Be Announced Tonight
The first-ever Michelin Guide Texas is being announced tonight on Monday, November 11, when we’ll find out which restaurants in Austin, as well as San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth will receive highly sought after designations from the international dining review system. There are those coveted stars ranging from three to one, along with its Bib Gourmands, Green Stars, and its lengthier recommended list.
Rumblings of Michelin in Texas had been around for a bit, and finally, the organization announced that it was coming to Texas in July, which means that its anonymous inspectors had already been on the ground in the state, reviewing restaurants in the five cities. Over the summer, restaurants had been receiving fact-checking questionnaires from the organization.
Eater Austin shared its Michelin predictions earlier this summer (lots of tasting menu spots and omakases, naturally). Readers and chefs also chimed in, with the latter guessing that Texas will be the first region with a starred barbecue restaurant — perhaps Franklin Barbecue?
The Michelin Texas ceremony is taking place in Houston’s 713 Music Hall in the downtown area. The event is an invite-only shindig, which implies that the Austin chefs and restaurateurs who have been summoned to the party will receive some sort of accolade from the organization. For those who want to watch along at home, it’s also being live-streamed on YouTube.
