Man dies in officer shooting at north Austin hotel

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A person died Tuesday morning after being shot at a north Austin resort by a Leander Police officer who was a member of the Central Texas Regional SWAT group.

In response to Cedar Park Police, the SWAT group executed a search warrant on the InTown Suites Prolonged Keep on North Lamar Boulevard close to Rundberg Lane at 12:30 a.m.

Police mentioned a confidential informant led the group to the situation in Austin. The case originated with CPPD.

“There was giant quantities of narcotics within the house on the time,” Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon mentioned, referring to the extended-stay resort. “That’s why the search warrant was executed.”

Leander Police Chief Greg Minton mentioned the officer shot and killed a 34-year-old man contained in the resort room. Police mentioned the officer is on administrative go away per LPD coverage. They didn’t establish the officer or the person who died.

Police didn’t say if the person contained in the resort had a weapon. Minton estimated the officer who shot the person had been with the division for about 17 years.

Minton defined the Central Texas Regional SWAT group is made up of the Cedar Park Police Division, the Pflugerville Police Division, the Leander Police Division and the Georgetown Police Division. The SWAT group was established in 2014.

Town of Leander earlier advised KXAN it had no remark as of Tuesday morning. Georgetown Police advised KXAN that none of its officers fired weapons throughout the capturing.
