LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The late Lynn County Sheriff Abraham Vega will be memorialized at the State Capitol.

Vega died from COVID-19 in 2020. At the time, the virus was not considered a line of duty death. Vega’s widow argued his job put him and his deputies at high risk during the peak of COVID and took to the state legislature for its recognition.

Now, nearly four years after his death, his name will be engraved on the Texas Peace Officers Memorial in Austin, which honors those killed in the line of duty.
