‘High crime and taxes’ push Texas lawmaker to propose bill that would dissolve city of Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) — Texas lawmakers began submitting payments forward of the upcoming legislative session this week, and if a type of payments passes, it’d dissolve one main metropolis.

The invoice, proposed by Republican lawmaker Jared Patterson, would eliminate town of Austin.

If the invoice will get handed, it might flip town into the “district of Austin,” which means the native authorities would report any new actions on to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Texas Home Speaker Dade Phelan.

In a tweet despatched out from Patterson’s verified account, he proposed the invoice as a result of Austin officers failed town, citing excessive crime and taxes.

Patterson believes that with this transformation, they’ll convey down taxes.

“I filed HB 714 & HJR 50 to create the district of Austin to provide the elected representatives of the state of Texas a possibility to higher handle a capitol district, cut back taxes, implement our legal guidelines, and defend Texas values.” Patterson’s tweet learn.

This is not the primary try made by Texas Republicans to push related measures. These propositions by no means handed.

The subsequent legislative session is ready to start on Jan. 10.
