ARCTIC CHILL FOR THE WEEKEND

Another blast of arctic air has settled across Central Texas. Night and day difference from Thursday and Friday as high temperatures went from the 70s to the 40s.

The chill is sticking around for the weekend. A HARD freeze Saturday morning as most of Central Texas will be in the low to mid 20s with some valley areas in the upper teens.

A reminder for PETS, PEOPLE, PIPES and PLANTS again tonight. High temperatures will warm up only into the 30s and 40s Saturday and Sunday with increasing cloud coverage both days out ahead of our next pattern shift.

PARADE OF WEATHER SYSTEMS

After our chilly weekend, our eyes will be focused on the potential for multiple rounds of widespread heavy rainfall late Sunday through Wednesday.

ROUND #1 – SUNDAY & MONDAY

A system will approach us from the west as we end the weekend, this will allow warm moist air to filter back in by Sunday night into Monday.

With temps near freezing Sunday morning, can’t rule out the possibility of a LIGHT freezing rain towards elevated locations across the Hill Country. Even if this does play out Sunday morning, temperatures will warm above freezing by the late morning and afternoon, squashing any issues that could come with it.

Sunday evening will see rain approaching the region from the west, becoming widespread and heavy during the overnight through most of Monday. This will likely be the heaviest round of rain we see during this active weather pattern.

Widespread 1-2″ will be possible, especially for areas along and east of I-35. Localized flash flooding will be possible Monday for these same areas.

Rain chances dwindle down by the morning hours Tuesday.

ROUND #2 – TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY

Our next system will start to approach us from the west again Tuesday. This will bring us more rain and storm chances across Central Texas. The best rain chances with this round appears to be late Tuesday throughout Wednesday.

This round doesn’t currently appear as widespread as the first round, but some areas still could see up to 1″ or maybe more for areas along and east of I-35.

Overall this looks to be our best rain event we’ve had it quite some time. Most of the region should see 1-2″ and that could be on the lower side of things. Some isolated locations could end up with 3-4″ or maybe more.

Temperatures will continue to stay mild into the 60s for the week. More updates to come this weekend.
