AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We are learning that a woman who died on the University of Georgia’s campus on Thursday was a student at Augusta University.

According to Augusta University, the woman was a student at our College of Nursing campus at Athens.

On Thursday, UGA police said they received a call just after noon from a person who was concerned for their friend, who had not come back from a run at the intramural fields. A short time later, police found the person in a forested area behind Lake Herrick with “visible injuries.”

The school said in a letter to students that “foul play is suspected,” adding that the “safety and welfare of our campus community is our top concern.”

“For our College of Nursing students, faculty and staff in Athens, we will have counselors on site tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. Support services will also be available for students, faculty and staff on the College of Nursing Augusta campus beginning at 8 a.m.,” said Augusta University in a statement released on Thursday night.

“Classes have been canceled tomorrow at the College of Nursing campus at Athens; however, the campus will remain open as a gathering place for students, faculty and staff to receive care and counseling as needed. Classes on the main campus in Augusta will continue as normal,” AU said.
