Victim identified in shooting on Amli Way
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One person has died and another is injured after a shooting on the 1000 block of Amli Way on Friday night.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office says Ruben Johnson from Augusta died at Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the scene at 6:55 p.m. in reference to a shooting.
Deputies say upon arrival, they located two male victims who had been shot at least one time.
The sheriff’s office says both victims were transported to the hospital, where one victim succumbed to his injuries and the other victim is being treated for his injuries.
At 8:40 p.m., a News 12 crew on scene says the scene was cleared.
Other details are limited at this time.
The shooting following another deadly shooting that left two people dead on the 3000 block of Mystic Lane early Wednesday. Tony Brooks Horne, 46, was arrested on the scene.
Last week, another shooting incident left multiple people dead in Augusta. That incident happened Nov. 21 in the 2100 blocks of B and C streets, claiming the lives of Jeremy Dontavious McGahee, 34, and Zyquan Jamarcus Franklin, 32, both of Augusta.
The shootings come amid a two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 180 lives across the CSRA.
Cities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River. But as the largest community in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.
