AUGUSTA, Ga. –
VA Augusta is doing its part in the help to fight Breast Cancer by offering the Breast Cancer Rodeo.

We know early detection is key in this fight against Breast Cancer. VA Augusta emphasizes early detection and says it wants to ensure each veteran is provided the necessary care.

Veterans were encouraged to participate in the walk-in-mammograms during VA Augusta’s Breast Cancer Rodeo at the Uptown Campus.

Veterans who are due or past due for their annual screenings and are registered for care with VA Augusta were able to walk in without an appointment.

Kutistia Ragland, VA Augusta’s Mammography Team Lead says they wanted to make sure there was enough time for as many veterans to come in as possible.

“So, we have a big open window for Them to be able to come and get that done.’ Said Ragland.

More than 30 veterans took advantage of this opportunity. Breast Cancer impacts both men and women but female veterans are most heavily impacted and are one of the fastest-growing veteran groups in America.

According to the VA, The Biden Administration has taken action. Just last year, the President signed into law the new Service Act, which helps veterans get the care they need.

Ragland says the things veterans were exposed to in the line of service can affect their health.

“They have endured some of the harshest environments…and because of that those things have been shown to affect their bodies.” Said Ragland.

VA Augusta says it will continue to meet the needs of this growing population and expand opportunities for women’s healthcare.
