Two dead in Friday crash on Mike Padgett Highway in south Augusta

A crash Friday night in south Augusta resulted in two fatalities.

Richard Faber, 30, of Burke County was traveling southbound on the 5200 block of Mike Padgett Highway when another vehicle traveling northbound swerved into the next lane and struck Faber’s vehicle, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

The second vehicle caught on fire and its driver plus Faber were pronounced dead on the scene at 10:25 p.m. The second driver has not been identified.

Autopsies are scheduled for both individuals.
