Suspect arrested in Beech Island after deadly Augusta shooting

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 32-year-old suspect was wanted in connection to a homicide that happened on the 2800 block of Washington Road on Feb. 28, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says Robert Ward was arrested Thursday in Beech Island, S.C. by the United States Marshal’s Southeastern Task Force with the assistance of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Ward is currently in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center.

Robert Ward has active warrants for murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime on file for his arrest, officials say.

John Lowden Jr., 38, of the 1700 block of Deer Chase Land, was shot at least one time and pronounced dead on the scene at 3:05 a.m., according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.
