AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas punter Ryan Sanborn was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list, the August Sports Council announced on Wednesday. It is the third-straight year in which Sanborn has been named to the preseason watch list for the award that annually honors college football’s top punter.

Sanborn, a graduate transfer from Stanford, appeared in 42 games over four seasons with the Cardinal, punting 192 times for 7,980 yards (41.6 ypp) with a long 68 yards, 37 of 50-plus yards, and 64 downed inside the 20. A San Diego native, Sanborn was a two-time All-Pac 12 honorable mention selection (2020, 2022). Last season, he punted 57 times for 2,376 yards (41.7 ypp) as a senior with a long of 59 yards, nine of 50-plus yards and 18 downed inside the 20.

The Ray Guy Award committee will meet in mid-November to select the ten semifinalists, who will be announced on November 10th. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on November 22nd. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN in December 2023.
