AUGUSTA, Ga (WFXG) – Redwood Housing is a trending topic when it comes to safety issues at its properties.

After the tragic death of 13-year-old Buddy Brown Jr. people have been questioning the safety of the property at Richmond Summit.

The investigation into the death of Brown is still underway. He was killed in late March while picking up a Doordash order in the middle of the night. Last week FOX54 spoke to his Father, who told us, he’s worried about security.

“I’m not comfortable here,” said, Buddy Brown Sr.

The family told us that the security cameras weren’t working that night. District 1, Commissioner Jordan Johnson says, regardless of the financial status of the people who live in Richmond Summit. They should still have a safe place to live.

“We’ve been advocating ever since I’ve been on the commission, to get security on the premises, said Commissioner Johnson.

Richmond Summit is owned by Redwood Housing, which also owns the Bon Air Apartments. Commissioner Johnson says, they’re well aware that this is not the first time the company has had safety issues.

“It’s about being able to work with the owners. But we can only do so much at the end of the day, they have to put their money where their mouth is.”, said, Commissioner Johnson.

FOX54 reached out to the Redwood property to get their side of the story, and this is what they had to say:

“…the shooting happened on public property not on the apartments property…. We will continue to support law enforcement in their efforts to hold accountable person(s) who committed this senseless act of violence”.

“Whenever you have a 13-year-old’s life taken because of lack of security that’s a problem…if this doesn’t get the property manager’s attention, I don’t know what will.” said, Commissioner Johnson
