Pair arrested after murder, armed robbery at Wrens food mart
WRENS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two suspects were arrested after shooting and killing a store clerk during an alleged armed robbery of a food mart, according to the Wrens Police Department.
The GBI says on Wednesday, around 8:35 p.m. the two male teen suspects entered Wrens Food Mart, also known as Jackie’s, on 504 Waynesboro Highway.
One of the teens stayed inside for a short time, then walked outside of the store, according to the GBI. The second teen stayed in the store and walked behind the clerk’s desk, pointing a pistol at the clerk, fired shots and hit him.
The GBI says the second teen then ran out of the store, then the second teen walked back into the store and took cash out of the cash register and other items before running away.
The victim was identified as Mandeep Singh, age 36, of Augusta, Georgia, officials say.
It was quiet at the location on Thursday. A sign on the doors showed they were closed.
In a short conversation with the owners, they told us this is a quiet area where not much happens, and they’re working with law enforcement to get more information.
Authorities say both suspects are in custody at this time and will be taken to the Augusta RDC. Due to the age of the offenders, names and photos cannot be released at this time.
One suspect was charged with murder and armed robbery. The second suspect was charged with murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to the GBI.
