North Augusta wrestler signs with Newberry College
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – North Augusta’s Nick Moore put pen to paper Sunday signing to wrestle for the Newberry Wolves.
Moore has been wrestling with the Jackets since he was an eighth grader. “We have several other kids who feel like they have to work as hard as Nick does to achieve what Nick is gonna achieve. And so by doing that by working hard, it rubs off and sets a great example for how hard he works. And by working hard, good things come,” said head coach Matt Franklin.
His hard work paid off this season. Moore finished as the Upper State Champion in Class AAAA, he placed second at the state meet.
“Everybody knew the senior season was coming for me there was expecting a good outcome. I had a decent one. Proud, not satisfied. Now I got another year coming up. And just doing this just tells everybody that like my chapter is not over,” said Moore.
The wrestler was surrounded by family, coaches and teammates as he became one of the first to sign to play at the next level for the Jackets.
“He’s my only one so I put my heart and soul in what he puts his into. He’s done great with his grades. He’s maintained two-a-days, either two practices or working out in practice or double workouts. He’s worked his butt off to get here. And I’m excited about his journey,” said his mother, Brittany Cawley.
