Burst pipe damages multiple floors at downtown Augusta VA Medical Center
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A water leak at the VA Medical Center in downtown Augusta caused extensive damage over the weekend, impacting portions of three floors, according to the facility’s public affairs office.
Officials said the leak happened Friday evening after a pipe burst on campus. All staff and patients in the affected areas were safely relocated.
VA Augusta personnel worked throughout the weekend and are continuing efforts to restore full operations in the impacted parts of the facility, according to the public affairs office.
Patients whose appointments were affected have been contacted to reschedule or coordinate care through a community healthcare partner.
Officials also expressed appreciation for the quick and coordinated response by VA Augusta staff during the incident.

Man found dead in vacant lot in Augusta, no foul play suspected
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A man was found dead in a vacant lot in Augusta, Friday.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen tells us 40-year-old Brandon Clark was found dead in a lot on 12th Street at Sharpes Lane.
He was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m.
Clark’s body has been sent to the GBI for an autopsy.
Coroner Bowen tells us there was no evidence of foul play or signs of trauma.

1 dead, teen arrested after Burke County shooting
WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One person is dead and a teenager has been arrested after an overnight shooting in Burke County, authorities said.
Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called around 1:13 a.m. on Sunday to the 200 block of Highway 23 for a physical altercation that escalated into a shooting.
On scene, deputies say they found an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.
Deputies rendered aid and performed CPR until Burke County Emergency Management Agency personnel arrived, officials said.
The victim was taken to Burke Health, where he later died, according to the sheriffs office.
Deputies say a juvenile was also taken for treatment of injuries sustained during the altercation.
Investigators later arrested a 16-year-old suspect, who was taken to the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center, according to authroties.
The teen is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a handgun by a person under 18 and tampering with evidence.
The investigation remains active.
