Gas prices Monday in Georgia are averaging $3.03 per gallon, up from $3.02 a week ago, according to AAA.

Augusta drivers are paying slightly less, with an average Monday of $3.02 per gallon, vs. $3.05 a week ago. The price is up from a month ago, when it stood at $2.95.

In Aiken and Edgefield counties, Monday’s average is $2.97, down from $3 a week ago. The price was $2.87 a month ago.

The current national average is $3.20, up a nickel from a week ago.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan has a gloomy outlook about prices ahead of us.

“We’ve seen the national average price of gasoline inching higher now for three straight weeks, but I’m afraid the worst is yet to come,” he said.

He said larger weekly increases would be likely in March and April.

“While I feel optimistic that the rise in prices will be merely average, the fact that we’ve already seen a few high-level refinery problems doesn’t bode well for the spring squeeze, and is a reminder to motorists that without the critical role that refineries play, we could see a bumpy transition to EPA-mandated summer gasoline,” he said.
